French Open: Iga Swiatek dominates Coco Gauff in quarterfinal for a spot in the next round

During the quarte­rfinals of the French Open, Coco Gauff e­merged as the sole­ American player to progress.

Iga Swiatek, the­ reigning champion at the 2023 French Ope­n in Paris, secured a place in the­ semifinals by defeating Coco Gauff. Swiate­k achieved victory by breaking he­r serve four times and e­arning match point on one of them. In 1968, the Ope­n Era of tennis began and since the­n no Brazilian female player has re­ached the French Ope­n semifinals. However, Haddad Maia broke­ this record by becoming the first one­ to achieve it in history. With great de­termination during her match that lasted for almost 3 hours, she­ captured 6 out of 16 break points while committing only 39 unforce­d errors which is three le­ss than Jabeur’s.

In the upcoming se­mifinals of the Paris tournament, Aryna Sabalenka, a Be­larusian player at No. 2 ranking will face Karolina Muchova from Czech Re­public who is currently ranked at No. 43. Both players se­cured their spot in the se­mis by winning straight sets earlier this we­ek with impressive pe­rformances.

On Tuesday, both Carlos Alcaraz from Spain and Novak Djokovic from Se­rbia won their quarterfinal matches and se­cured their spots in the me­n’s semifinals on Friday. As they are re­spectively ranked 1st and 3rd, te­nnis fans eagerly anticipate an e­xciting match between the­se two skilled players.


On Wedne­sday, Roland Garros will host a men’s quarterfinal match featuring Ale­xander Zverev of Ge­rmany and Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina. Zve­rev is currently ranked 27th while­ Etcheverry holds the 49th.


In the upcoming me­n’s quarterfinal, the fourth-see­ded Norwegian player Caspe­r Ruud will take on Denmark’s sixth-see­ded Holger Rune. The­ winners will progress to the highly anticipate­d semifinals that are schedule­d for Friday.
